After the Wolf Race and the Elves drove the Vampires out of Pegel, Helen, worried that the Vampires might return, simply had her people garrison the Giant God’s temple. But surprisingly, the Vampires did not make a comeback as the Wolf Race had anticipated. A large number of Vampires emerged from the Blood Domain, but they went to other places.
It seemed the Vampires had given up on their plan to destroy the Giant God’s temple. They were preparing to strike at other temples.
When Polly took the letter from the Wolf Race to the Forbidden Land to find Olivia, Olivia was purifying Elf Fruits with Cynthia. The Power of Nature and the Power of Light intertwined; the former soothed the little elves being nurtured within the Elf Fruits, while the latter patiently and meticulously sought out hidden dark elements, expelling them bit by bit.
The two of them were several meters apart and didn’t exchange any words during the purification, yet the atmosphere was unexpectedly warm, even giving Polly the illusion that she shouldn’t disturb them.
She stood at the entrance to the Forbidden Land, clutching the letter, her face a mask of conflict.
Olivia had long since noticed Polly’s arrival. She stopped her chanting, glanced sideways, and asked, “What is it?”
Once Olivia stopped channeling the Power of Nature, Cynthia stopped as well. She glanced toward Polly and, seeing the letter in her hand, assumed it was an internal matter for the Elves. She tactfully walked to the other side and began to prune the branches and leaves of the Tree of Life.
The Tree of Life was already very familiar with Cynthia. Seeing her prune its branches, it even deliberately extended its yellowing leaves toward her.
The Tree of Life rarely showed such closeness to outsiders. Polly was stunned by the sight and only snapped back to her senses after Olivia called her name twice. She hurriedly walked over with the letter and said, “It’s a letter from Clan Leader Helen.”
Olivia took the letter, unfolded it, and her eyes swept over it, ten lines at a glance. Her brow slowly furrowed.
Seeing her frown, Polly asked with concern, “Is it news about the Vampires?”
Olivia nodded and said in a low voice, “The Vampires have abandoned the Giant God’s temple.”
As she spoke, she turned to look toward Cynthia. Cynthia sensed her gaze, met it, and raised an eyebrow. She set aside the shears in her hand, walked over, took the letter Olivia offered, and glanced at it. Her golden eyes narrowed slightly. “The Vampires actually gave up on Pegel.”
Given the Vampires’ arrogant nature, it was astonishing that they could swallow such an insult.
“This indeed isn’t the Lasombra’s style of doing things,” Olivia said faintly after a moment of contemplation. “It seems they are now very desperate to turn the Sitatul Continent into a Blood Domain.”
Judging from how Avira directly intervened to stop the Lasombra from destroying the temple, the internal conflicts among the Vampires were already quite serious, though they hadn’t torn off all pretenses of civility just yet.
The Lasombra and Tzimisce were likely worried about the Ventrue and other clans finding fault with them, so they were impatient to turn the Sitatul Continent into the next Blood Domain.
They had even endured what the Vampires would consider a great humiliation—being driven out of Pegel by the combined forces of the Wolf Race and the Elves.
“Has Clan Leader Helen already investigated the Vampires’ next target?” Cynthia carefully read the contents of the parchment and asked, “Which god’s temple is in a place called Yezreet?”
The letter from Helen stated that they had tracked the Vampires’ movements. After being expelled from Pegel, Elder Edeli had reappeared in Yezreet, accompanied by other Second Generation Vampires.
But how did the Wolf Race know this so clearly?
“Yezreet might be the location of the Wind God’s temple.” Yezreet was far from the Elf Territory and had always been under Vampire control. Olivia had never been there, so she didn’t know much about it.
She only knew that Yezreet was the largest canyon on the Sitatul Continent, plagued by hurricanes, making it one of the most unsuitable places for human survival.
The environment of the Sitatul Continent began to deteriorate after the gods departed. Taking the Beast God’s temple and the Ocean God’s temple as examples, it was ninety percent certain that the Wind God’s temple lay dormant beneath the hurricane-swept lands of Yezreet.
The Wind God’s temple… Cynthia folded the parchment and asked curiously, “Who in the Wolf Race is responsible for investigating the Vampires?”
“After Helen was injured, most of the clan’s affairs were handed over to Joanna,” Olivia said, glancing at Cynthia. “What’s wrong?”
A leaf had fallen on Olivia’s shoulder. Cynthia saw it, raised her hand, and naturally brushed it away for her. A beautiful smile touched her lips as she said softly, “Nothing, I’m just a little surprised by Vice Clan Leader Joanna’s capabilities.”
Cynthia’s smile left Olivia stunned for a moment before she looked away and said in a low voice, “Helen has also always praised Joanna for her outstanding abilities.”
Ever since Cynthia had confessed her feelings, although Olivia hadn’t given a clear response, their interactions had changed somewhat.
For instance, Cynthia no longer restrained her inner desire to touch Olivia, and Olivia… didn’t seem to mind these affectionate gestures.
“Joanna has strength and prestige. Doesn’t anyone in the Wolf Race want her to replace Helen as the leader?” In truth, Cynthia was more interested in whether Joanna herself had ever coveted the position of leader.
From her few encounters with Joanna, the ambition hidden beneath that woman’s gentle mask was not small.
“She cannot be the leader. It’s a tradition of the Wolf Race.” Olivia was quite knowledgeable about the Wolf Race. Seeing Cynthia’s confusion, she explained, “The Wolf Race has continued from the Age of Gods to this day, and two bloodlines have the most outstanding talent and aptitude. One is Helen’s family, the Fields, and the other is Joanna’s family, the Axtons.”
“Almost all past leaders of the Wolf Race have come from these two families. When the current leader is still in their prime, they will select the most qualified werewolf from the younger generation to be the young master. This is their clan’s rule.”
“Joanna lost to Helen in the competition for the position of young master.” So even if Helen were to step down, the position of leader would not go to Joanna.
Because she had lost, she had been disqualified from the very beginning.
Moreover, the Wolf Race was extremely loyal to their leader. If a leader were to be sacrificed and the young master was not yet strong enough to shoulder the responsibility of the clan, many elders would willingly protect her as she slowly grew.
After Helen stepped down, Joanna could only play the role of a guardian.
This tradition of the Wolf Race did, to some extent, prevent the divisions that could arise from power struggles. Cynthia raised a hand to her chin, thought for a moment, and was about to say something when her peripheral vision caught a furtive white figure, causing her to swallow her words.
Hanni stood at the entrance to the Forbidden Land, peeking inside. When she saw Cynthia turn to look at her, her eyes lit up, and she waved vigorously.
Cynthia turned to Olivia and said a few words, then walked toward Hanni.
“Why are you here?” Cynthia led Hanni away from the Forbidden Land and asked.
Hanni followed behind Cynthia, glancing back from time to time. Only when she could no longer see Olivia did she look away, shaking her head and sighing, “It seems Her Majesty the Queen really doesn’t like you.”
In the past, Olivia would have always been with Cynthia.
Cynthia’s expression was a bit strange. “Where did you get that idea?”
Hanni scratched her head. “Her Majesty the Queen is so cold to you.” Fearing she might hurt Cynthia’s feelings, she quickly added comfortingly, “Don’t be discouraged, Cynthia. You’re so outstanding, you’ll definitely find another partner.”
Cynthia raised a hand to touch the small white flower pinned in her hair. A faint smile appeared on her lips, and her golden eyes curved slightly. “I, on the other hand, think Her Majesty the Queen is quite gentle.”
Seeing Hanni’s clueless look, she lowered her hand, chuckled softly, and changed the subject. “What did you run over here for?”
At the mention of this, Hanni’s face filled with sorrow. “I have to go back to my territory.”
“Oh?”
“My mother found out I ran off to the Elf Territory, so she sent a message for me to return,” Hanni said dejectedly. “I came to say goodbye to you.”
She didn’t want to go back at all, but it was her mother’s command, and she couldn’t disobey.
Cynthia reached out and patted Hanni’s head. “When are you leaving?”
“Tomorrow, I guess.”
Cynthia nodded and pondered for a moment. “On your way back, when you pass through the God Race’s territory, please deliver a letter to Darcy for me.”
After Hanni agreed, she asked curiously, “So when are you leaving?”
Besides saying goodbye, she had come to find Cynthia to ask if she wanted to leave with her.
Although Cynthia’s Light Magic was formidable, Hanni felt that a member of the God Race still needed some protection.
“In a little while.” The Elf Fruits and the Tree of Life were still unstable. Cynthia wanted to help Olivia shoulder a bit more of the pressure.
She couldn’t let Olivia expend her own life force any longer.
This heavy burden of the Elf Race rested on Olivia’s shoulders. No matter how powerful Olivia was, there would eventually come a day when she could no longer hold on.
The situation of the Elf Race was truly dire.
Right now, perhaps only the Sacred River left by the Goddess of Light could alleviate the crisis of the Tree of Life. Cynthia lowered her eyes, concealing the deep thought within them. It seemed it was time to discuss finding the Temple of Light with the God Race.
Inside the Forbidden Land, after Cynthia left, Polly felt that Olivia seemed somewhat absent-minded, even though she was still standing by the stream observing the state of the Elf Fruits as usual.
Although she didn’t know what had happened, Polly could sense that Olivia had been in an unusually good mood recently. This was evident from the fact that all the flowers in the Forbidden Land had bloomed overnight.
And this strange phenomenon had begun on the day Hanni blurted out the silver-haired God Race’s feelings.
No matter how you looked at it, Olivia’s abnormality was related to Cynthia.
Polly stared at Olivia’s back, hesitated for a moment, and asked tentatively, “Did something happy happen, Your Majesty the Queen?”
Lost in her own thoughts, Olivia came back to her senses. She subconsciously suppressed the smile on her lips, pursed them, and shook her head. “It’s nothing.”
The Tree of Life extended its branches toward Olivia. She reached out to touch them, then glanced at Polly out of the corner of her eye and asked thoughtfully, “Are the God Race loyal to their partners?”
Elves were loyal and devoted to their partners, but as far as Olivia knew, not all other races were like the Elves.
The Wolf Race, for example, was quite casual when it came to partners.
Polly was taken aback by Olivia’s question. “This… I don’t know.” She observed Olivia’s expression and asked warily, “Why does Your Majesty ask this?”
“It’s nothing.” Olivia raised a hand to tidy her light green hair, which wasn’t messy at all, as it cascaded down her front. She said with a blank expression, “Just asking.”
