Monsters first appeared in the middle to late period of the Age of Gods. They were enormous and exuded a dense dark aura. When they first appeared, the Gods mistook them for the God of Darkness’s new pets.
But the monsters were extremely hostile towards the Gods. They dreamed of eliminating the Gods and becoming the new masters of the Sitatul Continent. Even the God of Darkness was a target of their attacks.
No one knew how they came to be. Born with immense power, these monsters caused a great deal of trouble for the Gods at the time.
Before the Gods departed, to prevent the monsters from destroying the Sitatul Continent, the God of Darkness specifically created a new plane to imprison the most powerful ones. As for those who were lucky enough to evade capture, their power gradually weakened for unknown reasons after the Gods left.
However, no matter how weakened it was, a Magic Dragon that feared not even the Gods during their age could not be killed by a few spells of Light Magic.
The tyrannical and scorching Power of Light made the Magic Dragon wary, but it also thoroughly enraged it. After being thrown back by the Light Magic, it shot straight into the sky to evade the spell’s range, then circled to Cynthia’s right and dove down, spewing a great mouthful of dragon’s breath.
The black mist, torn apart by the golden light, coalesced once more. In the pitch-black darkness, a cold, savage Power of Darkness surged toward the ground with the force to destroy everything. The figure of the silver-haired God Race member was quickly swallowed by the darkness.
The members of the God Race watching nervously from a distance felt their hearts tighten. Their vision was suddenly stolen by the darkness, and unable to see Cynthia’s situation, they began to panic. Just as they were at a loss, Darcy’s calm and composed voice came from within the darkness.
“Use the Grand Light Spell,” she said in a low voice. “If once isn’t effective, use it twice. If your spiritual power is depleted, use the Divine Stones.”
They were here for training. If a single Magic Dragon could throw them into such a panic, how would they ever fight against the Vampires in the future?
The Vampires had Second Generation Vampires who were even more powerful than this Magic Dragon.
The God Race members gradually calmed down and began to chant their incantations. A dazzling golden light slowly gathered a short distance in front of them.
As they were chanting, the darkness that had engulfed Cynthia vanished without warning. The Magic Dragon’s figure paused in mid-air. It recognized this as the Purification Spell often used by the Goddess of Light, and its heart filled with astonishment and doubt.
It had just been woken up and was in an irritable mood, so it hadn’t paid any attention to who these people using Light Magic were.
Startled by the Purification Spell, the Magic Dragon circled in the air, studying Cynthia carefully for a moment. It seemed to realize something, its eyes widening. Its dark green pupils were filled with unconcealable shock. “This… this isn’t…”
Isn’t this the new race the Goddess of Light created to eliminate us monsters?
As a former enemy of the Gods, although the Magic Dragon’s power had now weakened to the point where it had to be wary of even an Elf Queen, its long life and glorious past meant it knew many secrets unknown to other races.
During the last thousand-plus years that the Gods remained on the Sitatul Continent, the monsters were at the peak of their power. Although in the eyes of weaker races like werewolves, elves, and humans, the Gods were still mighty, only the Gods themselves knew that they were beginning to lose control of the monsters.
As lofty Gods, they would not allow themselves to be defeated by monsters. So, the Gods began to unite, and they eventually devised a plan to completely eradicate the monsters.
The Magic Dragon didn’t know the specifics of the plan the Gods came up with, only that they had secretly created many new races. In the end, however, the Gods never initiated this plan, and those new races were said to have all been sealed away.
Who released her? Could it be that the Gods were going to deal with the ones that got away? The Magic Dragon shook its head, which was groggy from sleeping for too long. It hesitated in the air for a long while, but its power, less than a tenth of what it was at its peak, made it decisively turn and flee.
The Magic Dragon slipped away like a puff of smoke. Cynthia, who had been on guard against it, saw it turn and warily took a few steps back, quickening the speed of her chant. But her spell was ready, and still the Magic Dragon’s attack never came. Its figure grew more and more distant until it vanished completely.
Cynthia: “…”
The black mist overhead slowly dissipated. Bathed in golden light, Cynthia stood frozen in place, a look of astonishment on her face. The Magic Dragon… ran away?
The Magic Dragon’s escape was so sudden that even Olivia didn’t have time to react. She watched the direction it had disappeared, raised her longbow, and fired an arrow. The pale green arrow searched the air in a circle, but finding no target, it returned to Olivia’s side and slowly dissipated.
The God Race members had just finished preparing their Grand Light Spell when the enemy vanished. They let the spell dissipate and looked at each other, unsure of what had just happened.
Olivia leaped from a tree to Cynthia’s side. She first looked her up and down, and seeing that she wasn’t injured, she frowned and said, “The Magic Dragon fled.”
Elves have superior eyesight, so Olivia had seen the entire process of the Magic Dragon’s demeanor changing from arrogant to shocked, and then to hesitant.
Why was it so shocked to see Cynthia? It didn’t even fight, just tucked its tail and ran.
Olivia looked at Cynthia searchingly and asked, “Do you know this Magic Dragon?”
Tossing the Light Crystal in her hand, Cynthia thought carefully, then slowly shook her head. “I’m sure this is the first time we’ve met.”
This was too strange. But the Magic Dragon had already fled to who knows where, making it impossible for her to catch it for questioning.
With the Magic Dragon gone, the Power of Darkness also dissipated. Aside from the partial collapse of the cave, the place looked no different from when they had first arrived.
Seeing that the danger had passed, Darcy signaled for the knights to search the cave for Light Gemstones while she walked over to Cynthia to ask about what had just happened.
However, Cynthia didn’t know what was going on either. The two exchanged a look and could only temporarily bury their doubts in their hearts.
An excited wolf’s howl drew the attention of Cynthia and the others. Hanni ran out of the cave, exclaiming excitedly, “There are so many gems inside! We’re rich!”
Although the Magic Dragon had only been sleeping here for less than a century, its collection was still quite large.
The cave, large enough for a Magic Dragon to lie down and sleep in, was unimaginably vast. In its depths, more than a dozen mountains of multicolored gemstones were piled haphazardly, shimmering faintly in the darkness.
Although Cynthia was already prepared, she still raised an eyebrow when she saw these dozen-plus mountains. A smile touched her lips. “Quite a bountiful harvest.”
It was more than just bountiful. There had to be hundreds of thousands of gems here.
However, they weren’t all Light Gemstones. After all, the Magic Dragon just liked shiny stones; it wasn’t particularly fond of the aura of light.
Darcy followed Cynthia inside. Seeing the gems, her eyes widened slightly before a brilliant smile spread across her face. She nodded in satisfaction. “Not bad, not bad at all.”
She bent down and picked up a Light Gemstone from the ground. She was even more pleased to discover that the aura of light from these gems was even richer than that of the ones they had gotten from Susan.
But satisfaction aside, there was still a problem… how were they going to transport so many of them back?
“Let’s have Chelsea and the others set up a Teleportation Array.” Cynthia walked over to Darcy. Noticing a black, carapace-like object on top of a pile of gems, she found it somewhat familiar. She bent down and picked up the carapace to take a look.
“What’s that?” Darcy asked, looking at the carapace in Cynthia’s hand.
Cynthia examined it for a moment and said, a little uncertainly, “It looks like the carapace of a giant spider.”
Giant spiders were also a type of monster. Before she had met Darcy and Chloe, she had joined forces with Chelsea and the others in Nobi City to kill a giant spider. She remembered it vividly because she had found its carapace a bit strange.
Seeing Cynthia holding the carapace with a thoughtful expression, Darcy was about to ask her what was odd about it when Betty and Chelsea happened to come over to find them.
When Cynthia saw Chelsea and the others approaching, she put the carapace away and asked, “Can these gems be sent back to Manden City with a Teleportation Array?”
They had already left a Teleportation Array in Manden City before they came.
Chelsea gazed at the mountains of gems, thought for a moment, and said, “It’s possible, but we’ll need to set up several more.”
Hearing her say it was possible, Darcy breathed a small sigh of relief. She nodded and said, “I’ll find people to help you.” And learn a thing or two in the process.
Chelsea glanced at her and didn’t refuse. Cynthia deserved half the credit for the successful improvement of this Teleportation Array, so she didn’t mind teaching it to the God Race.
The larger the range of a Teleportation Array, the more complex it is. Betty helped Chelsea for half the day and had only completed a tenth of it. Seeing the slow progress, she simply grabbed Eunice, who was resting on the side, to help.
Eunice hated these tedious and useless witchcrafts and formations, but after being dragged over by Betty, she didn’t complain despite her dark expression and obediently helped out beside her.
Darcy, who was watching them set up the Teleportation Array from the side, looked at Eunice and Betty with great interest. With a gossipy expression, she asked Cynthia, who was next to her, “Are those two lovers?”
After spending some time with them, Darcy had gotten a complete grasp of the witches’ personalities. The witches of the Garcia and Morgan families were gentle and steady, respectively. Only the witches of the Anderson Family had strange tempers and all seemed very difficult to provoke.
Especially this Eunice. Darcy had never seen her give anyone a pleasant look, but surprisingly, she was very obedient to Betty.
And the way they interacted was also quite intimate.
Cynthia glanced at Darcy, shaking her head with a helpless sigh at her occasional burst of gossip. Just as she was about to answer, Betty, who was busy with the Teleportation Array not far away, realized they were talking about her and Eunice. She hurriedly turned around, waving her hands in denial. “No, no, we’re friends.”
Although she was denying it repeatedly, her face was completely red.
Eunice, beside her, corrected with a displeased look, “We are close friends!”
Representing the one and only… close friend.
Betty shyly touched her hair and said in a small voice, “Right, close friends.”
She stole a glance at Eunice, then lowered her head and smiled.
The conversation reeked of a desperate attempt to hide the truth. Darcy’s gaze shifted between Betty and Eunice, her expression playful. “Close friends…”
A young girl experiencing the first stirrings of love, trying to hide her feelings yet unwilling to use the same term as everyone else, awkwardly calling their relationship close friends. How innocent and cute.
“Do you have a close friend?” Darcy asked Cynthia teasingly, glancing at her.
Cynthia turned her head to glance at Olivia, a faint smile on her lips. “Not yet,” she said softly.
After speaking, she thought for a moment and added, “But I already have someone I want to become close friends with.”
