The members of the God Race that Chloe and Darcy had brought with them were among the more talented of their clan. They had a stronger sensitivity to the Divine Stones, and they found learning Light Magic to be incredibly intuitive.
They were far better than Sarah, who at the beginning couldn’t even summon a tiny flicker of flame.
Among them, the most talented were Chloe and Darcy, who managed to master Light Fire in just one day.
It was as if the God Race was innately gifted with the ability to manipulate the element of light; they had only suffered from a lack of incantations, not knowing how to communicate with it.
Although Light Magic also involved gathering the Power of Light and using its explosive force to attack enemies, it was more convenient and powerful than using Divine Stones. Most importantly, it didn’t consume their blood.
Whenever the God Race encountered an enemy, their first worry was always whether their blood or their Divine Stones would run out first.
With Light Magic, the Divine Stones were naturally rendered obsolete. Since the God Race didn’t have to worry about their safety while staying in the Elf Territory, they all focused on practicing Light Magic, not even stopping to rest at night.
After Helen left with her people, Hanni, who had been recuperating in the wooden cabin, immediately became full of life. Although her injuries hadn’t fully healed, she no longer wanted to lie in bed and instead spent her days hanging around the God Race.
Like the Elves, the werewolves also loved the aura of light. Hanni transformed into her original form and lay among a group of God Race members who were practicing Light Magic. As the golden light showered over her, she relaxed as if she were sunbathing.
A hand tapped Hanni’s head, not too hard and not too soft. Hanni opened one eye, saw it was Cynthia, and quickly stood up, sitting obediently.
Cynthia crossed her arms and looked at the white wolf, who was taller than her even when sitting down. She said with a faint smile, “So, your injuries healed up the moment you knew your clan leader was gone, is that it?”
When Helen was still around, she hadn’t seen even a shadow of Hanni.
The white wolf tentatively lay back down, resting her head by Cynthia’s leg and letting out a yawn. “Clan Leader Helen wanted me to go back to our territory, but I’m not going.”
“Because you lost to the other candidates, you don’t want to go back?”
“That’s not the reason.” Hanni waved a paw, full of fighting spirit. “I lost because I was careless. I definitely won’t lose next time.”
“Then why do you want to follow me?”
“Actually, I wanted to follow Queen Olivia, but I don’t think she’d have me.” The white wolf lowered her head, looking a little dejected. “I’m an adult now. I want to get more experience; I don’t want to just stay in the territory.”
She wanted to become the young master of the Wolf Race, and she wanted to become stronger-strong enough to support the entire clan in the future.
Cynthia chuckled softly and reached out to rub the white wolf’s head. “You seem to know Olivia quite well.”
While Cynthia was chatting with Hanni, Chloe and Darcy stood under a tree not far away, watching them. Their gazes were fixed primarily on Cynthia.
“What do you think of this God Race member?” Darcy asked with interest, holding a piece of parchment and noticing Chloe staring intently at Cynthia.
Chloe averted her gaze, her tone flat. “Very outstanding.”
She was more than outstanding; she was almost unlike a normal member of the God Race.
Darcy blinked at Chloe. “She’s so outstanding. Aren’t you afraid that bringing her back to the clan will threaten your position as Clan Leader?”
Chloe shot her a glare. “Nonsense.”
Darcy let out a low laugh. Seeing Chloe was getting angry, she straightened up and stopped joking. “Do you remember the spell she used against that third-generation vampire at the bottom of the Ice Lake?” Darcy waved the parchment in her hand and said in a low voice, “That spell isn’t in here.”
Chloe frowned. “That spell was too bizarre.”
Cynthia’s wretched state after the blood mist dissipated was still clearly etched in Chloe’s mind. At that moment, she had truly believed this God Race member was beyond saving.
But who would have thought that after just three or four days in a coma, she would be completely healed?
Darcy pondered for a moment. “Do you think we could use that spell?”
Chloe lowered her eyes without a word. Logically, since they were also of the God Race, they should be able to use it.
However… not everyone possessed the same courage and perseverance as Cynthia.
Cynthia came over almost every day to teach the God Race Light Magic, but only during the day. As soon as the sky began to darken, she would leave, without fail.
Darcy glanced at the darkening sky and then at Cynthia’s departing figure. She walked over to Hanni and asked curiously, “Where is she going?”
The God Race had very high stamina; they could go for days without rest and not feel too tired.
The white wolf rolled over on the ground, squinting as she waved a paw at Darcy. Darcy shook her head with a helpless sigh and tossed a ball of light to her.
Hanni hugged the ball of light comfortably and answered distractedly, “To find the Elf Queen.”
“Every night?”
“She sleeps at the Elf Queen’s place.”
Darcy’s expression turned strange. “Together?”
Hanni thought about it seriously. “That, I don’t know.”
Not just anyone could go up to the Elf Queen’s aerial bridge. She had never been up there, so how could she possibly know how many beds there were?
Hanni didn’t know how many beds were on the Elf Queen’s aerial bridge, but Cynthia knew very well. There was only one-the same one she had lain in while injured, and which she continued to occupy even after recovering.
The view from the aerial bridge at night was also beautiful. Cynthia leaned against the headboard, gazing in a daze at the countless stars in the night sky, her long silver hair cascading from the edge of the bed to the floor.
Olivia, sitting at a table, glanced at Cynthia, somewhat surprised by how quiet she was today. “What are you thinking about?” she asked.
Cynthia pulled her gaze back and turned to look at Olivia. Shrouded in the night, Olivia looked as cool and indifferent as her voice sounded.
Cynthia casually picked up a lock of her own silver hair and toyed with it, saying nonchalantly, “I was thinking about the God Race.”
“I’ve been observing their progress in learning Light Magic these past few days.” Cynthia twirled her hair and said in a low voice, “It’s much faster than I imagined.”
But that was also related to the superior talent these God Race members already possessed.
“Although they’re learning Light Magic quickly, there are only about two thousand members of the God Race. That’s fewer than the descendants of a single fourth-generation vampire.”
Cynthia sighed. “The plan to find humans with a Light Constitution still can’t be abandoned.”
As Cynthia spoke, Olivia listened quietly without responding. But Cynthia didn’t mind. Even without a response, she unhurriedly laid out all her thoughts. “I want to bring all the God Race members over and find another safe territory for us.”
If it were just the God Race hiding away to practice Light Magic, it wouldn’t matter where they did it. But Cynthia hadn’t given up on her plan to find humans with a Light Constitution. She wanted to gather them together to practice Light Magic as well.
“Light Magic is powerful, but the God Race themselves are still too weak. So I also want to train a group of knights.”
Back in Ochester, with Susan’s knights holding the front line, the witches and Sarah had been much more composed when using their witchcraft and healing spells.
Having a group of knights to protect them was also very important.
Olivia listened quietly. When she finished, she spoke softly, “It seems you’ve already decided where to go.”
Cynthia’s eyes flickered, and then the corners of her lips slowly turned up in a smile. “Her Majesty the Queen is so clever,” she praised.
“Since you’ve already guessed, will you come with us?”
Olivia glanced at her, neither answering nor refusing, and simply looked away with a placid expression.
A place that was safe, where they could train knights and continue searching for humans-there was only one such place.
As for whether she would go with Cynthia… she hadn’t left with the Wolf Race. Wasn’t that answer enough?
After deciding to bring back her people and find a new territory, Cynthia found Chloe, Darcy, and the others early the next morning to discuss the matter.
The small God Race meeting expanded from three to seven people. Four older members who were on good terms with Chloe and Darcy came along after hearing from Cynthia that there was something important to discuss.
Cynthia had been helping them practice Light Magic for some time, so the God Race was already very familiar with her.
“What important matter is there to discuss?” Darcy asked curiously, sitting on the edge of a chair.
Cynthia took out a map and spread it on the table. Seeing that everyone’s eyes were focused on it, she began, “Darcy mentioned before that we have over two thousand clan members hiding elsewhere.”
“I’m considering bringing them out and finding another safe place to serve as our territory.”
The God Race members, including Darcy, were stunned. They subconsciously looked at Chloe.
Chloe slowly lifted her gaze from the map and said expressionlessly, “There is no absolutely safe place on this continent. Have you considered how many of our people might be sacrificed if we’re discovered by the Vampires on the way?”
“While there’s no absolutely safe place, there are certainly places more suitable for living,” Cynthia said, gesturing toward the Elves outside with a serious expression. “The Elf Race will be with us. With the Elf Queen present, I believe that even if we encounter Vampires, the God Race won’t suffer too many casualties.”
Chloe frowned and fell silent.
Darcy thought for a moment, then looked up at Cynthia and asked, “I have no objection to bringing our people out and finding a new territory. But have you already decided where this territory will be?”
She pointed to a region on the map and said with a smile, “We can go here.”
Darcy and Chloe looked down at the place Cynthia was pointing to and saw that she was indicating several cities near the Slade Sea Region.
Chloe asked in a low voice, “Why here?”
“The Vampires are destroying the temples left by the gods, and the temples in this area have already been destroyed. It’s certain that we won’t see a gathering of third-generation vampires here again, so it’s relatively safe.”
“Of course, the more important point is that we have allies here.”
Darcy and the other God Race members exchanged glances, all looking bewildered by Cynthia’s mention of allies. Chloe also asked doubtfully, “Who are these allies?”
Cynthia smiled slightly. “Humans.”
Darcy and the others were taken aback. Before they could speak, Chloe’s face had already darkened, her tone cold and hard. “The God Race will not ally with humans.”
“Humans are selfish and cowardly. What right do they have to be allies of the God Race?”
Chloe’s sudden cold expression and her tone, filled with disgust and aversion, surprised Cynthia. She frowned but said nothing.
The atmosphere suddenly grew tense. Darcy glanced at Chloe and took the initiative to ease the tension. “Why choose humans as our allies?”
Cynthia glanced at Chloe, noticing that her hand on the table was clenched into a tight fist as if she were suppressing her anger. She found it strange but had the sense not to ask about it at that moment.
“You all should have met Jenny by now.” Cynthia looked out the window. Jenny and a few other humans had also been diligently practicing Light Magic during this time. “She is a human, but she possesses a Light Constitution and can practice Light Magic.”
“There are surely many humans with a Light Constitution. The God Race’s numbers are too small. On our own, we can’t possibly deal with the Vampires, who have tens of thousands of descendants.”
“Only by uniting with the humans will our chances of driving out the Vampires increase.”
Darcy had noticed those humans who could practice Light Magic on the first day and had even observed them for a few days. She recalled the term “Light Believers” that Sarah had mentioned and narrowed her eyes. “I heard from Sarah that you call these humans with a Light Constitution ‘Light Believers’?”
Cynthia smiled and repeated the whole spiel about the Goddess of Light. Seeing the subtle expressions on the faces of the God Race, she shook her head helplessly. “Only the Goddess of Light has the prestige to make these humans trust me. If I just mention the name of the God Race, they would never follow me.”
Chloe snorted coldly. “Deception.”
Cynthia shrugged. “I had no other choice.”
Chloe turned her head away, about to offer a few more sarcastic remarks when a hand suddenly covered her mouth. She glared sullenly at the hand’s owner.
The owner of the hand, Darcy, paid no mind to Chloe’s icy stare. She leaned forward slightly, looked at Cynthia, and said thoughtfully, “I think what you’re saying makes a lot of sense. The God Race’s numbers are too small. If we could really find several thousand, or even tens of thousands, of Light Believers, then the Vampires would have to be wary of us.”
Seeing that Darcy shared her view, the smile on Cynthia’s lips deepened. She pointed to a city on the map and said meaningfully, “Not only that, but there’s another reason I chose this place as our new territory.”
“Oh?” Darcy asked with interest. “What reason?”
“The lord of this city has trained a group of knights. They are very strong; the most powerful among them can almost contend with a fifth-generation vampire.”
“Although Light Magic is powerful, chanting the incantations takes time. Moreover, the God Race themselves are very weak.”
Darcy’s eyes darted around, and she quickly understood the meaning behind Cynthia’s words. She nodded slowly and said with a smile, “Indeed, we are in great need of protection.”
The two looked at each other for a moment, having reached a consensus. Darcy tapped a city on the map and said softly, “Hatz City. Sounds pretty good.”
The other four God Race members looked at Cynthia, then at Darcy, and finally stared thoughtfully at Hatz City on the map, their thoughts unreadable.
Chloe shook off Darcy’s hand and said with displeasure, “I said, the God Race will not ally with humans. I will not allow these so-called Light Believers to integrate with the God Race.”
Cynthia looked at the hatred on Chloe’s face and asked with a frown, “Why do you have such a strong opinion of humans?”
Chloe said resentfully, “Because they are selfish and cowardly. They will do anything to stay alive.”
The journey from the Capri Plains to the Wolf Race’s territory took about a week. Although the witches of the Anderson Family were very dissatisfied with the Morgan Family’s proposal to seek help from the Wolf Race, since the Garcia Family sided with the Morgans, the Anderson witches only grumbled and ultimately went along.
The closer they got to the Wolf Race’s territory, the colder the temperature became. The ice field was a vast expanse of white, with nothing else in sight.
Betty hugged her arms tightly. She wore a thick cloak, but it still couldn’t stop the cold from seeping up from her feet. She sniffled, her small face red from the frost.
Eunice glanced at the shivering Betty, frowned, and took off her own cloak to drape over her.
Chelsea studied a map for a while, then pointed in a certain direction and said with some uncertainty, “If we head this way, we should reach the Wolf Race’s territory in half a day.”
She appeared very reliable, but the witches who knew her were aware she had a terrible sense of direction. Kana took the map from her, glanced at it, and pointed in the opposite direction. “This way.”
The witches lowered their heads and followed behind Kana. Chelsea clutched her map and silently followed at the very back.
After walking through the heavy snow for two hours, some villages finally appeared on the seemingly endless ice field. A few young wolves playing in a village saw the witches and ran over, circling them several times before asking curiously, “Who are you?”
Chelsea’s eyes lit up when she saw the young wolves. She ran up from the back of the group. Though her expression was as composed as ever, her voice couldn’t help but betray a hint of excitement. “We are witches. We’ve come to the ice field to visit Clan Leader Helen.”
The young wolf tilted its head. “But our clan leader isn’t here.”
Chelsea was taken aback, her gaze shifting toward the depths of the ice field. “Then who else from the Wolf Race is here?”
“The vice clan leader is here.”
“Vice Clan Leader Joanna?” Chelsea thought for a moment and said, “I previously asked Vice Clan Leader Joanna to deliver a letter to Clan Leader Helen for me. She should still remember me.”
“Could you please go and ask Vice Clan Leader Joanna for me? Just say that Chelsea of the Morgan Family has something to discuss with her.”
The young wolf thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright, you guys wait here for a bit.”
The young wolves scampered away, and the witches found a spot sheltered from the wind to sit and rest. They waited and waited, until night fell.
The temperature on the ice field at night was cold enough to freeze a person solid. Betty leaned against Eunice, her eyes dim as she watched Chelsea, who was still standing on the ice field waiting for the young wolves to return. “…The Wolf Race doesn’t want to help us either, do they?”
Eunice gently rubbed Betty’s face, her tone icy. “We never should have come here to humiliate ourselves in the first place.”
Betty sniffled, the corners of her eyes turning red as she murmured, “Then what should we do?”
No one was willing to help them, and their people were still in the hands of the Vampires, their fates unknown.
