Although Divine Stones were more convenient and faster than Light Magic spells that required chanting, they had their drawbacks.
They consumed too much blood, especially the more powerful Divine Stones after they were unsealed, which required even more.
Chloe and Darcy had been fighting Andre here with the God Race for quite some time. Due to blood loss, their faces were faintly pale.
But what was worse was that they were running out of Divine Stones.
A dense Power of Light surrounded the God Race. The dazzling golden radiance forced the fourth-generation vampires hiding in the shadows to watch covetously from a distance, not daring to approach. The only one who dared to step into the golden light was Andre, who floated in mid-air, arms crossed, staring disdainfully at the few people still putting up a futile resistance within the light.
He had long since figured out that the so-called Light Magic these God Race members were using was nothing more than activating Light Crystals with blood that contained the Power of Light.
He had thought as much. How long had the God Race existed? How could they possibly have a complete system of Light Magic already?
However, there was a rather strange God Race member among them… Andre’s gaze passed through the golden light and fell upon Cynthia. He narrowed his eyes. The spell this God Race member had just used was indeed the Grand Light Spell favored by the Goddess of Light.
Continuous bursts of golden light defended the God Race’s position, but they couldn’t break through Andre’s domain. The third-generation vampire deliberately kept his distance, only mobilizing the Power of Darkness to confront the golden light, precisely to exhaust the Divine Stones in their hands.
Chloe and Darcy had discovered this long ago but were powerless to do anything about it. After all, they were already nearing their limits just resisting the Power of Darkness.
If this continued, they would all die here once their Divine Stones were depleted. Chloe turned and gave her people a deep look, her hand clutching a Divine Stone so tightly her knuckles turned white. She turned her head back to face the darkness, pursed her lips, and said in a low voice, “Darcy, take them and break through this vampire’s domain. I’ll hold on here alone.”
Only by breaking the domain would they have a chance to escape.
Darcy frowned. Before she could speak, a clear and pleasant voice spoke first, its words not at all tactful, “You can’t hold out alone, can you?”
Darcy and Chloe turned simultaneously to look at the speaker. Cynthia had sliced her palm with a dagger. Watching the blood drip onto the Divine Stone, she threw it out. She looked up and saw Chloe and Darcy staring at her in silence, then smiled sweetly. “Am I wrong?”
She pointed at Darcy and the other God Race members. “If they withdraw, the Power of Light will be immediately devoured by the Blood Domain.”
She was right. Darcy knew this, which was why she had consistently opposed Chloe’s decision to sacrifice herself for their escape.
Chloe took out a dozen Divine Stones and threw them on the ground, then produced a dagger. She unsheathed it, the sharp blade pressing against her arm, and said coldly, “I said I can hold on, so I can hold on. Are you all going to disobey the clan leader’s words?”
Darcy reached out and pressed down on Chloe’s wrist, her expression stern. “Chloe, no one requires a Clan Leader to sacrifice herself to protect her people at a time like this.”
Chloe’s hand, gripping the dagger, trembled. She bit her lip and said stubbornly, “You all go, I’ll…”
Before she could finish, the golden light in front of them was suddenly torn apart. A black shadow charged in through the rift. An icy and tyrannical Power of Darkness instantly enveloped the unprepared God Race, and the powerful impact sent them flying.
Cynthia had sensed it when Andre made his move, so when the Power of Darkness suddenly descended, she was able to calmly toss out an unsealed Divine Stone to block the powerful impact for her.
But it was useless for her to block it alone; the God Race’s formation had already been scattered.
Chloe was sent flying by the Power of Darkness, crashing into the stone wall behind Cynthia. A surge of blood rose in her chest, and her arm was mangled by the encroaching dark power. She lay on the ground for a moment to recover before her blurred vision gradually cleared.
A hand suddenly rested on her shoulder. Chloe froze for a second, then looked up slightly to see it was Cynthia.
Cynthia helped Chloe up with one hand while placing her other hand on Chloe’s arm, rapidly chanting a spell. A white light purified the Power of Darkness from the wound, and the mangled flesh healed swiftly.
Chloe stared at her arm, which had been restored in an instant, a trace of astonishment in her eyes. But fortunately, she knew what the situation was and didn’t press Cynthia with questions about the white light.
The golden light was shattered to pieces by the Power of Darkness. Andre walked out from the darkness, his black boots stepping on and crushing a blood-stained Divine Stone. He looked contemptuously at the God Race, who had lost their ability to fight back after a single blow, and sneered, “Pathetic.”
Everyone else was on the ground, so Cynthia and Chloe, whom she had helped up, were rather conspicuous. Andre glanced over, and his figure suddenly vanished from its spot.
A dangerous aura approached. Cynthia quickly pushed Chloe away, then began chanting rapidly while retreating. A golden flame erupted in front of her, but Andre was faster, bursting through the flames in an instant.
Seeing Andre less than ten meters away, Cynthia’s expression grew grave. She chanted without pause, unleashing one Light Magic spell after another in an attempt to stop him.
But the power of a third-generation vampire was too great. Andre completely ignored the Power of Light landing on him, even as his exposed hand was scorched black by the golden light.
Cynthia had used nearly every Light Magic spell she currently could, but the distance between her and Andre was still closing relentlessly. Just as his hand, shimmering with a bloody light, was about to reach for her neck, two beams of golden light suddenly struck from different directions.
The golden light was deflected upon hitting Andre, but his advance was halted for a split second. Seizing the opportunity, Cynthia cast a Grand Light Spell and retreated several more meters.
The two beams of golden light were sent flying. Chloe and Darcy, clutching their Divine Stones, slammed hard against the stone wall before falling to the ground. Their faces were ashen, and they spat out a large mouthful of blood.
Cynthia glanced at the state of the God Race. Seeing that most of them had lost the ability to fight, she frowned. She fiddled with the Divine Stone in her hand for a moment, then suddenly stopped her chanting.
As she stopped her incantation, the coalescing Light Magic slowly dissipated. The light vanished, and the surroundings were instantly plunged into darkness.
Darkness always made people feel uneasy and apprehensive. Chloe and Darcy looked up at the darkness before them, their hearts tightening involuntarily.
Darkness did not affect a vampire’s vision. Andre watched Cynthia suddenly give up on using Light Magic and raised an eyebrow. He flashed closer to her, his hand shooting straight for her slender neck.
A cold wind suddenly struck. Cynthia instinctively dodged, but she wasn’t faster than a vampire. An icy hand pressed against the side of her neck through her clothes, but in the next second, the hand’s owner swiftly retracted it.
Two white orbs of light floated in the air, illuminating the darkness. By their dim glow, Cynthia looked at Andre opposite her. He was staring grimly at her clothes.
That robe, which merely looked a bit ornate, actually contained the Power of Light. And its power surprised him.
However, no matter how powerful, it was just a piece of clothing. Andre wiggled his fingers, and blood-red chains shot out from the ground, wrapping around Cynthia.
Because the chains only restricted Cynthia’s freedom, her robe did not react.
“As expected of a third-generation vampire.” Cynthia glanced down at the chains on her legs, sighed, and said, “I give up. I can’t beat you.”
After she spoke, she simply let go with her left hand. The blood-stained Divine Stone fell to the ground with a crisp clatter.
Andre crossed his arms, his crimson eyes sizing her up. Seeing her composed expression, completely devoid of panic or fear, his eyes slowly narrowed. “Give up?”
Did this God Race member think they were playing a game?
The wound in her left palm throbbed with a dull pain. Cynthia healed it with a spell before looking up to meet Andre’s gaze. She curved her lips and said, “Aren’t you vampires capturing other races to destroy the temples?”
“There are so many of us. It would be a waste to just kill us. Why not capture us and send us to the temple? What do you think?”
Chloe and Darcy had just managed to stand up, leaning against the stone wall, when they heard Cynthia’s words. Chloe’s face darkened. She would rather die in battle than aid a tyrant for a few more moments of life.
Chloe straightened up against the wall and opened her mouth to speak, but Darcy stopped her. Darcy shook her head, her gaze fixed on Cynthia.
Andre had thought Cynthia had some trick up her sleeve. Hearing her words, he realized this God Race member was being so arrogant only because she knew they wouldn’t kill her for the time being. He scoffed, “It’s a disgrace for Della to have lost to someone like you.”
“Whether I kill you or not depends entirely on my mood.” Andre said with an air of arrogance. “As for you, you dare call those third-rate spells Light Magic?”
Cynthia discreetly switched the Light Crystal she had been holding in her right hand to her left. In response to Andre’s mockery, she simply smiled faintly and said softly, “I can’t help it if they’re third-rate. After all, the Goddess of Light didn’t leave behind a complete system of Light Magic.”
As she spoke, she suddenly reached out and grabbed Andre’s arm. Her golden eyes seemed somewhat profound in the dim light. Cynthia stared into Andre’s eyes, her red lips curving into a beautiful arc. “Actually, I know one more third-rate Light Magic spell. Would you like to see it?”
Andre glanced down at the hand Cynthia had on his arm. For some reason, a bad feeling suddenly welled up inside him. He tried to flash away to avoid her, only to find that he couldn’t move.
Cynthia silently finished her chant, feeling the Light Crystal in her left hand growing hot. She looked down at the golden light that had suddenly appeared at Andre’s feet and murmured in a low voice, “But this is the first time I’ve ever used this Light Magic spell.”
Sacrifice-the spell inscribed on the Light Crystal she had carried with her ever since she had transmigrated.
Because Olivia felt this spell was more in the style of Dark Magic, Cynthia had never used it.
Therefore, she didn’t know what would happen when she used it, only that she had a premonition its power would be immense.
When Andre realized he couldn’t move, his eyes widened slightly. He stared intently at Cynthia and asked coldly, “What trick are you playing?”
The golden light at his feet was extremely domineering; Andre could even feel it devouring him. This powerful Power of Light reminded him of the Goddess of Light, and he felt a faint sense of panic.
Seeing this, Andre’s subordinates all rushed forward, but they were sent flying by the golden light.
Not long after the golden light appeared at Andre’s feet, a bloody mist also rose from beneath Cynthia’s. A chilling aura spread upwards from the soles of her feet. Cynthia shivered as red cracks suddenly appeared on her exposed skin. The pain made her face turn white.
Cynthia looked down at the circles of light at her and Andre’s feet and said with sudden realization, “So that’s how it is.”
Sacrifice. Sacrificing her Power of Light in exchange for his Power of Darkness. So, this was a gamble of who could last longer?
Red cracks had already appeared on Cynthia’s face, but the Power of Light within her showed no signs of depletion. The Light Crystal in her left hand was continuously supplying her with the Power of Light. Although her lips were colorless from the pain, her spirit was not the least bit weakened.
Opposite her, Andre was constantly trying to break free. Due to the corrosion of the Power of Light, his pale skin was covered in burn marks, and the golden light was still spreading upwards.
Cynthia looked at Andre’s pathetic state and suddenly laughed out loud. “Elder Excellency, does this Light Magic spell meet your standards?”
Enduring the corrosion of the Power of Darkness was not an easy thing. A trace of weakness was clearly audible in Cynthia’s voice, but when Andre looked up at her, he found that this God Race member was actually still smiling.
“Madwoman.” Andre glared furiously at Cynthia, roaring, “You’re a madwoman!”
This God Race member opposite him was clearly not strong, yet her Power of Light seemed inexhaustible. Andre watched as his legs slowly turned to ash, his panic no longer suppressible.
Compared to the frantic Andre, Cynthia was remarkably calm, even as the Power of Darkness corroded her legs until almost only bone remained. Cynthia held her head high, her gaze fixed on Andre’s face, her tone serene. “Let’s bet on which of us is tougher.”
A life for a life.
This spell really was, as Olivia had said, very much in the style of Dark Magic. Except, Dark Magic sacrificed other people’s lives.
