The dozen or so Vampire clans each have their own unique talents. The Second Generation Vampire before her, who had just transformed from a cat into a person, strongly resembled the rumored Gangrel Clan, who possessed the blood of beasts.
The Gangrel Clan was another clan with formidable combat strength, second only to the Brujah, who were renowned for their fighting prowess. They could transform parts of their bodies into bestial weapons to aid them in battle, and their animalistic nature meant they rarely possessed reason during a fight.
They were a clan that lost their reason and grew more excited the longer they fought. Even the Brujah, known as battle maniacs, would find such “beasts” difficult to handle.
One moment, Kate was giggling at Cynthia; the next, her figure vanished from Cynthia’s sight. A cat’s agility granted Kate extraordinary speed. In the blink of an eye, she was behind Cynthia, her small, soft hand resting on Cynthia’s shoulder. She deliberately leaned in to sniff her scent. “The smell of your blood is so alluring.”
Kate’s speed was so immense that Cynthia had no time to prepare a spell. To be approached by a Second Generation Vampire, a Gangrel whose combat ability was second only to the Brujah, Cynthia knew she couldn’t escape her grasp through strength or speed. She caressed the Light Crystal in her hand, tilting her head slightly to glance at the hand on her shoulder. Her red lips curved into a beautiful arc as she said nonchalantly, “The last vampire who said that was Elder Edeli.”
“But he failed.”
“He was just a little good-for-nothing.” Kate leaned intimately against Cynthia, raising her other hand to cover a yawn. They looked like old friends chatting casually. “Letting the blood of a beauty like you end up in his stomach would be a waste.”
“Oh?” Cynthia met Kate’s gaze, her smile gentle. “Then should it go into your stomach?”
Kate’s hand on Cynthia’s shoulder began to misbehave, toying with her hair. She glanced up at Cynthia’s fair neck, her tone tinged with regret. “As much as I’d like that, I haven’t had much interest in the blood of other races lately.”
“But we can play other games.” Kate licked her sharp fangs and said with a grin, “Talia would definitely like you. How about I take you to her so we can all play together?”
“I’d rather not.” Cynthia refused softly, her golden eyes lowered to her right hand. The Light Crystal she had been holding had, at some point, begun to flicker with a golden light.
Kate followed Cynthia’s gaze and noticed the abnormality of the Light Crystal. “What’s wrong with it?” she asked curiously.
Although she asked, she was already growing wary. The hand on Cynthia’s shoulder gradually tightened, but she soon discovered she couldn’t move.
Not even the leader of the Brujah Clan could have restricted her movements so silently. The playful smile vanished from Kate’s face. Her scarlet eyes stared at Cynthia as she asked again, “What’s wrong with it?”
In stark contrast to her earlier carefree expression, Kate’s eyes were now filled with thick killing intent.
“I just used a little spell.” Cynthia ignored Kate’s dark expression and said with a smile, “Didn’t the people from the Tzimisce Clan tell you how one of their Third Generation Vampires died?”
“Overconfidence can lead to trouble.”
The two of them were standing quite close. With the Sacrificial Spell not yet fully formed, it was hard to imagine the tense, sword-drawn atmosphere between them just by looking at their posture.
A cold wind carrying ice arrows shot out from somewhere, heading straight for Kate. A pale green figure emerged from the darkness. A simple, solid-colored long dress couldn’t hide her superb figure, and a silver belt accentuated her slender waist. Her slightly curled, pale green hair hung below her hips, swaying in the night breeze. Olivia stopped abruptly a dozen meters away from them, her gaze sweeping over the glowing circle that was slowly materializing at Kate and Cynthia’s feet. Her brow furrowed.
When the cold wind and ice arrows struck Kate, they were blocked by a golden shield of light. The Sacrificial Spell domineeringly repelled all external attacks. The golden light exploded without warning, and Kate was completely suppressed by the Power of Light. The golden circle appearing at her feet filled her with unease.
Cynthia sensed Olivia’s presence the moment it appeared. She turned her head, peering through the golden light in the direction of the presence. Her hand gripping the Light Crystal paused, and the glowing circle at her feet also stalled for a moment.
The uncertainty of the Sacrificial Spell was too great, and Olivia disliked Cynthia using it. She expressionlessly took out her staff and began chanting a spell in a low, rapid voice. An even colder wind materialized around Cynthia and Kate, attempting to interrupt the spell.
Kate’s Blood Domain enveloped all of Tallas. Avira, who was supposed to be assisting the Wolf Race but had instead run off to bother Hanni after entering the temple, sensed the presence the instant it appeared. Her hand, which was grabbing the big white wolf’s tail, paused, and the playful look on her face turned serious.
Hanni also noticed Avira’s strange behavior. She swatted the hand off her tail with her paw and asked, “What’s wrong with you?”
She turned her head to follow Avira’s gaze and soon spotted Kate’s Blood Domain. She was slightly startled, her eyes widening. “That’s the domain of a Second Generation Vampire.”
And it seemed to belong to a “healthy” Second Generation Vampire.
Helen and the Wolf Race elders appeared beside them, all wearing grave expressions. The former carefully distinguished the aura and said in a low voice, “Judging by the aura, it’s not Edeli’s domain. It feels more like a Gangrel vampire.”
After speaking, Helen turned toward Avira and asked calmly, “Is it Elder Kate?”
Back when Helen was uninjured, the Ventrue had not yet withdrawn from the Sitatul Continent with the other clans. At that time, she had dealt with many vampires in order to protect the Wolf Race, so she was somewhat familiar with their auras.
“You actually remember Kate.” Avira glanced at Helen and teased, “What? Did you lose to her?”
Before Helen could answer, the big white wolf beside her lowered her head and discontentedly shoved Avira away. “How could Clan Leader Helen possibly lose?” she said, displeased.
She had heard from her mother how formidable Clan Leader Helen was in her youth.
Helen, who had been expressionless, revealed a smile upon hearing Hanni defend her. She reached out and stroked the big white wolf’s neck.
Caught off guard by Hanni, Avira was knocked back a few steps. She snorted coldly, grabbed the big white wolf’s tail, and gave it a retaliatory squeeze before flashing away, her figure quickly disappearing.
“She’s up to no good!” Seeing Avira suddenly run off, Hanni froze for a moment before realizing and quickly giving chase.
The Wolf Race was not inferior to the Vampires in terms of speed. After a short chase, Hanni caught sight of Avira. Just as she ran over to question what Avira was doing, she heard Avira suddenly say, “The Blood Domain is gone.”
Hanni was stunned for a moment, then looked up. The thick, blood-colored fog overhead had indeed vanished.
The Blood Domain had only appeared for a short time. The opponent was a Second Generation Vampire; even if Cynthia and Olivia joined forces, they couldn’t have dealt with it so quickly.
Hanni was filled with doubt and was about to ask Avira when a burst of golden light erupted in front of them. The golden light was immensely powerful, but it was soon surrounded by an even more powerful hurricane that seemed intent on splitting it in two.
That’s the Power of Light and Nature Power… Hanni froze for a second, then said in astonishment, “Why are Cynthia and Queen Olivia fighting?”
Because Kate’s aura was completely suppressed by the Sacrificial Spell, Hanni didn’t sense any dark presence from the golden light and the hurricane.
But Avira, who was very familiar with Kate, did.
Avira had witnessed Cynthia’s Sacrificial Spell firsthand and knew how bizarre it was. She frowned, her figure shooting toward the golden light like a bolt of lightning. A blood-red meteor broke into the hurricane and slammed into the golden shield along with it, forcefully cracking it open.
Kate, who had been suppressed, caught a glimpse of Avira’s figure out of the corner of her eye. Her eyes flickered. Seizing the moment of freedom granted by the crack in the light shield, she quickly pulled her hand back from Cynthia’s shoulder.
The Sacrificial Spell was interrupted, and the glowing circle at Cynthia’s and Kate’s feet slowly faded. Because the spell had not fully formed, neither was injured. However, after experiencing the feeling of her body not being under her own control, when Kate looked at Cynthia again, all traces of interest and playfulness were gone, replaced only by shock and lingering fear.
“What kind of spell is that?” Kate turned her head to look at Avira behind her, asking in astonishment, “The Goddess of Light never used a spell like this, did she?”
No wonder Talia had led her clan to attack the Elf Race only to return in utter defeat. She had heard Talia and the others discussing how this God Race member could use divine power, and while she was surprised, she hadn’t paid it much mind. Looking at it now… she was indeed not to be underestimated.
“I don’t know what spell it is.” Avira looked over at Cynthia and said in a low voice, “Back when her Power of Light was still very weak, she used this spell to kill a Third Generation Vampire.”
Kate narrowed her eyes. “This God Race member is very strange.”
She was strange in more ways than one, but this wasn’t the time to tell Kate all that. Avira shook her head slightly, withdrew her gaze from Cynthia, and glanced at Kate. “Why are you here?”
Vampires like them, who had lived through the age of the gods for thousands of years, easily fell into a state of apathy toward everything once there were no more threats. That was why Avira had gone into slumber not long after the gods departed. And before she went to sleep, Kate, for some unknown reason, had suddenly set her sights on Talia and started playing a game of hunter and prey with her.
For a high and mighty Second Generation Vampire to willingly wear chains and become another vampire’s prey sounded incredible, but there were too many strange people among the Vampires, so Kate didn’t seem so out of place among them.
“Talia got angry and threw me over here.” Kate flicked her hand, her sharp nails glinting coldly in the night, and said with a gloomy expression.
“Oh?” Avira raised an eyebrow and mocked her bluntly, “Is it because she was in a bad mood after suffering a crushing defeat while attacking the Elf Race?”
“It was for another, more fun reason.” Kate winked at Avira. She raised a hand to rest on Avira’s shoulder and leaned in, about to say something, when she caught a glimpse of fire out of the corner of her eye. At the same time, a scorching heat washed over her, making her instinctively turn and hide behind Avira.
A sea of fire poured down on them, quickly engulfing them.
The master of the sea of fire, Olivia, walked to Cynthia’s side. She looked her up and down, and only after seeing that she was unharmed did her icy expression soften slightly.
“Her Majesty the Queen’s spells are truly amazing.” Cynthia watched the sea of fire before them, clapping her hands in praise. But the person beside her didn’t react, merely giving her a cool glance.
Looks like she’s not too happy, Cynthia thought, clearing her throat and rubbing her nose.
