In order to complete their dark array, the Vampires had gone so far as to enter the witches’ territory to capture people. Kana was among the first wave of witches taken. During her transport to Ochester, more of her kin were constantly thrown into the convoy, making her extremely worried about the situation back in their territory.
The witches gathered and discussed for a while, ultimately deciding to return to their territory first. Even though it would be dangerous, they were more concerned about their other clan members.
After the witches made their decision, Chelsea and Betty came to bid Cynthia farewell.
The terrible news from their clan and the sudden departure left Betty in low spirits. It was only when she learned from Cynthia that Eunice was on her way here that she managed a faint smile and whispered, “I’m glad you’re all okay.”
The grand ambitions she had when leaving her territory were once again shattered by reality. She wanted to save humanity, but in truth, her own people were still in constant danger. Betty sighed heavily, suddenly feeling a little lost.
Cynthia, who was recording something on a piece of parchment with a quill, glanced up at Betty. Seeing her so heavy with worry, she put the parchment down and beckoned to her with a finger.
Betty approached, puzzled, and received a light tap on her forehead. Cynthia’s voice, tinged with laughter, reached her ears, dispelling the gloom in her heart.
“Didn’t we already promise to go to the Tallas Mountains to save your people?” Cynthia gazed at Betty with a smile, her golden eyes filled with a gentle warmth. “Are you planning to break our promise?”
“Of course not,” Betty said, rubbing her forehead. Although the worry on her face had faded somewhat, her spirits were still not high. “But I have to go back to my territory. I don’t know when I’ll be able to come out again.”
Besides, the Sitatul Continent was so vast; she didn’t know if they would ever have the chance to meet again.
Betty’s expression was dejected as she said in a low voice, “Will we be able to see each other again, Cynthia?”
Cynthia thought for a moment, then held out her hand to Betty. “Give me a strand of your hair.”
Betty looked at her, confused. Though she didn’t know what Cynthia intended to do, she obediently plucked a strand of hair and placed it in her hand.
Cynthia then asked Betty for several witchcraft materials and attempted to chant a spell. A pure white dove appeared and landed on Cynthia’s shoulder. She tied Betty’s hair to the dove’s leg. The dove flew a circle in the air before landing on Betty’s head.
Betty looked at Cynthia in astonishment. “You actually learned witchcraft!”
Even the perpetually expressionless Chelsea showed a hint of surprise on her face. This was a spell their witch clan used for sending messages.
“I saw this spell in the book you gave me,” Cynthia said, reaching up to stroke the white dove on Betty’s head. She smiled. “But I can’t use witch power, so I created this one using the Power of Light.”
“You can use it to contact me. I look forward to our next meeting.”
Betty carefully lifted the white dove from her head and put it away safely. The corners of her mouth couldn’t help but turn up as she said happily, “The next time we meet, I’ll be much stronger.”
As they were talking, Eunice finally arrived. Betty’s eyes lit up when she saw Eunice and she waved at her. After exchanging a few more words with Cynthia, she ran over to Eunice.
Cynthia was watching Betty and Eunice, slightly lost in thought, when Chelsea’s voice suddenly brought her back. Chelsea looked down at the parchment in Cynthia’s hand and asked, “What are you writing?”
The parchment was densely covered with characters, with corresponding diagrams drawn below them.
“Some methods for cultivating sword aura,” Cynthia said, handing the parchment to Chelsea. “I think they can be improved.”
Chelsea took it and glanced at it. “Where did you get this?” she asked.
Cynthia blinked. “I coaxed it out of Susan and the knights around her.”
Chelsea thought of the God Race’s natural talents and understood. She studied it again and asked, “How do you want to improve it?”
The two of them often studied arrays together, and sometimes Cynthia’s unusually peculiar lines of thought would give Chelsea new ideas.
“I was wondering if it’s possible to imbue this sword aura with the Power of Light,” Cynthia said, stroking the quill thoughtfully. “That would make dealing with Vampires easier.”
Moreover, after witnessing the effectiveness of the knight squadron, Cynthia began to consider the idea of training one of her own.
After all, whether it was the God Race or humans, they were inherently fragile. No matter how powerful Light Magic was, it was only effective when it could be used.
“You might be able to get help from the Elves for this,” Chelsea said, returning the parchment to Cynthia. She glanced toward the Elves and said in a low voice, “The Elves are the only race that can engage in close-quarters combat while also possessing a system of nature magic.”
Although their strength and speed couldn’t compare to the Wolf Race or the Vampires.
The Elves? Cynthia took back the parchment, nodding thoughtfully. She smiled. “The Elf Queen should be willing to help me clear up a few small doubts.”
She knew the Elves could hear her conversation with Chelsea, so after speaking, she looked over at Olivia. Olivia, sensing her gaze, turned her head and glanced at her, her eyes cold and indifferent.
Cynthia withdrew her gaze and rubbed her nose. Catching sight of the witches preparing to leave, she opportunely changed the subject. “I wish you a safe journey.”
Chelsea nodded seriously, then took out two staves inlaid with white gems from her Space Gem and handed them to Cynthia. Facing her surprised look, Chelsea said in a low voice, “There wasn’t enough time. I only managed to make two.”
They still had many Light Gems from the warehouse in Hatz City, but unfortunately, time was short. Otherwise, Chelsea could have crafted more.
Cynthia picked up one of the staves and examined it. The corners of her eyes curved slightly, and the smile on her face grew even gentler. “Thank you, Chelsea.”
“It’s just two staves. You’ve saved us many times,” Chelsea said, but she remained standing there, showing no intention of leaving.
Cynthia shifted her gaze from the staff to Chelsea’s face. “Is there something else?” she asked, puzzled.
Chelsea was silent for a moment before expressionlessly plucking a strand of her hair and handing it to Cynthia.
Cynthia was taken aback for a moment, then smiled gracefully. “I thought you and Betty would always be together.”
She took the hair and created a new dove, handing it to Chelsea.
Chelsea took it and said flatly, “I don’t want to see Eunice.”
When it came to the Anderson witches, she just wanted to stay away.
At the mention of Eunice, Cynthia’s brow furrowed slightly. She glanced in Eunice’s direction and said in a low voice, “Eunice is practicing the Power of Darkness.”
Chelsea froze, her expression turning cold.
“But she probably wasn’t the one who killed those villagers.” Cynthia had specifically observed the way Eunice used the Power of Darkness; it wasn’t condensed through blood and death, and she never summoned demonic creatures.
She had confirmed with Olivia that demonic creatures were generally summoned using rotting corpses.
And the person who would be interested in demonic creatures was Eunice’s sister, Camille.
“Tell Betty to be careful of Camille.” Cynthia’s gaze deepened as she looked at the pitiful little girl trailing behind Betty and Eunice. “…I think you should investigate the Anderson Family thoroughly after you return to your territory.”
For Camille to have access to the Power of Darkness at such a young age, the witches of the Anderson Family were certainly not as disciplined as the other two families.
After Chelsea left, several other witches came to say goodbye to Cynthia one after another. Polly watched Cynthia, who was surrounded by witches, and was suddenly reminded of their time in Nobi City, when the young Elves also loved to gather around Cynthia. She remarked with some emotion, “This member of the God Race is so popular.”
Fortunately, Olivia had only brought four elf guards with her this time. The elf guards were older and all had permanent partners, unlike the young Elves whose Twin Flowers had just bloomed and were in the stage where feelings begin to stir.
If it had been those young Elves, by the time they finished helping this silver-haired God Race find her people, half of them would have been lured away by her.
It couldn’t be helped. The Elves had no resistance to beautiful people and things, not to mention that the aura surrounding this God Race was the very aura of light they loved most.
Just as Polly was musing, Olivia, who was in front of her, suddenly turned and walked away. Polly paused for a moment, then hurried to catch up. “Her Majesty the Queen, where are we going?”
“To find a place to rest.” After the witches left, Sarah also led some of the God Race over to Cynthia. Seeing that Cynthia would be occupied for a while, Olivia decided to find a quiet place to wait.
Polly and the elf guards followed behind Olivia. As she looked at Olivia’s back, something occurred to her, and her expression became a little strange.
Olivia had always been very composed and incredibly powerful, which often made her forget that Olivia was also very young.
When they had returned to their territory before, Polly had noticed that Olivia’s Twin Flower was about to bloom.
It was a tradition of the Elf Race to plant a Twin Flower along with the birth of a young elf, because the blooming period of the Twin Flower coincided perfectly with an elf’s growth period. When the flower bloomed, the young elf would have grown to an age where they could find a partner.
However, the Elf Queen was different from ordinary Elves. The future partner of an Elf Queen was generally called a Guardian, and establishing a Guardian was a major event for the entire clan. After all, it concerned the birth of the next Elf Queen. Typically, only the most talented and outstanding Elves in the clan could be considered candidates for Guardian.
But Polly had heard from the clan elders that during the age of the gods, there had been instances of other races becoming Guardians.
She really couldn’t let her guard down around this silver-haired God Race.
Polly took a sharp breath inwardly as she looked at Olivia’s back. She absolutely could not let this God Race steal their Queen away.
After seeing off the witches and comforting the few members of the God Race rescued from the temple, the sky had already darkened. All the surrounding open spaces were occupied by people resting. Cynthia scanned her surroundings, saw a patch of woods to her left, and walked toward it.
Elves usually chose places like forests to rest. Cynthia walked into the woods, looked up, and sure enough, she saw an elf guard sitting on a tree branch, looking down at her.
Cynthia smiled at the elf guard and asked, “Where is Olivia?”
The elf guard pointed in a direction.
Cynthia nodded her thanks to the elf guard, then turned and walked in the direction she had indicated.
Finding Olivia wasn’t difficult; the hard part was climbing the countless steps. Cynthia stood at the bottom and waited for a while. Seeing no whirlwind to carry her up, she resigned herself to climbing on her own.
Her patience was surprisingly good when it came to Olivia. It took her nearly an hour to finally reach the top, but her face still wore a faint smile, with no sign of annoyance.
Olivia was staring in the direction of the Beast God Temple, lost in thought. Hearing the noise, she turned slightly, her tone cold and distant. “Is something wrong?”
“There’s no place to rest down below.” If Olivia didn’t want to see her, she wouldn’t have been able to get here at all. So, Cynthia didn’t mind her cold attitude. She naturally walked over to the table and sat down, her long silver hair cascading over the vine-woven bridge.
Olivia glanced down and said coldly, “There are plenty of places in the forest.”
Cynthia propped her chin on one hand and responded casually. Seeing her attitude, Olivia’s brow furrowed directly, but in the next second, her attention was drawn to the white stone Cynthia had taken out.
Cynthia’s free hand was tossing a white stone. Seeing from the corner of her eye that Olivia’s attention was indeed captured, the corner of her mouth rose imperceptibly. She tossed the white stone to Olivia and said in a soft voice, “Does Her Majesty the Queen know what this stone is?”
“I think it has some connection to the Goddess of Light.”
Olivia caught the stone with one hand and looked down at it for a few moments before saying, uncertainly, “…A Light Crystal?”
Cynthia thought for a moment and asked, “Is it just an ordinary stone that contains the Power of Light?”
Olivia didn’t answer her question. Instead, she looked up into her eyes and asked, “Why do you say it’s related to the Goddess of Light?”
Cynthia was about to answer, but looking at Olivia deliberately standing at the farthest point from her, she changed her mind. She placed her hand flat on the table, gesturing for Olivia to come over. “It might be difficult to explain with words. Let me show you, and you’ll understand.”
Olivia hesitated, but seeing Cynthia’s serious expression, which didn’t seem like she was trying to trick her, she remained silent for a moment before walking over and sitting down opposite her. However, she looked at the hand Cynthia had placed on the table and hesitated to place her own on top of it.
Seeing her hesitation, Cynthia smiled and didn’t rush her. Instead, she reached her hand across and politely touched only her fingers, not crossing any boundaries or causing any discomfort.
Olivia was a little surprised. She looked up slightly, her pale green eyes staring directly at Cynthia. Cynthia met her gaze, the corners of her lips curving into a rather beautiful smile.
Looking at Cynthia’s smile, Olivia asked calmly, “If this works, then why did you grab my hand back in Ochester?”
Cynthia: “…”
She cleared her throat and pointed to the white stone in Olivia’s hand with her other finger, changing the subject. “Look.”
Olivia looked at her suspiciously for a moment but ultimately didn’t press the issue. She looked down at the stone in her hand. The white stone had, at some point, begun to flicker with a golden light. The light was somewhat dazzling in the dark night, and one could even faintly see the characters of a spell flowing across its surface.
“Are these the words to a Light Magic spell?” Olivia asked in surprise.
Cynthia nodded.
“What kind of Light Magic?” Olivia asked subconsciously, not expecting Cynthia to be able to answer, since she knew Cynthia didn’t even recognize the Grand Light Spell. But to her surprise, Cynthia actually answered her.
Cynthia looked down at the flowing golden light and said in a low voice, “Sacrifice.”
Sacrifice? Olivia frowned and thought for a moment, then shook her head. “I’ve never heard of this Light Magic spell.”
Besides, the name of the spell didn’t sound like a Light Magic spell at all. It seemed more in line with the style of Dark Magic.
